International patron-client relationships in de facto and microstates by Izzet Yalin Youksel (MA in International Relations and Regional Studies)
Izzet Yalin Youksel is a PhD Researcher at Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies, University of Tartu. His thesis topic is about international patron-client relationships in de facto and microstates. International patron-client relationships literature is a recent but growing one. It draws attention to the fact that while some relationships of states might look like dependencies they are far more than that. Primarily focusing on the relationships of de facto states with their much stronger supporting states, it aims to explore the intricacies of agency of these constrained states. Although the current research is mostly limited to cases of de facto states, it can be expanded into almost any bilateral or multilateral interstate relationship.

The best asset of the International Relations and Regional Studies master's programme offers to its students is academic support and expertise in whatever endeavour they may embark on. The staff and faculty of Johan Skytte Institute are dedicated to furthering ethical and beneficial high-quality research. Students will quickly find themselves at home, valued as students, green researchers and, most importantly, human beings. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge generated through research in this programme with some of the best academics in their respective fields. If a student is interested in international politics and takes research and knowledge generation seriously, this is the place for them.
