Over 1.3 billion people worldwide, 16% of the world's population, experience a significant disability. These 1.3 billion people with disabilities have their human rights infringed every day. Each society has a long history of stigma, institutionalization, abuse, exclusion, and discrimination toward people with disabilities. In 2006, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was adopted and introduced worldwide. This is a powerful tool for addressing human rights violations affecting people with disabilities. To date, 185 countries have ratified the CRPD. Its implementation within each state is crucial to ensuring that the rights of persons with disabilities are fully realized. The webinar will discuss why knowledge of the international human rights system is critical for better understanding the CRPD and its implementation mechanisms at the national and UN levels.

The International Law and Human Rights master's programme is a unique opportunity to gain extensive academic knowledge of international law and human rights. It also helps to boost one's academic research and writing skills. The program gives an in-depth understanding of the international human rights system and provides comprehensive training in different areas of international law. Importantly, separate courses are offered on academic research and writing skills. The programme is beneficial for students who are seeking to acquire a solid understanding of the field.
